President's Message:

This year marks the ninety-eighth year of the Abingdon Garden Club and our world has certainly seen some changes in that time! What hasn't changed is our desire to serve our community as well as beautify our surroundings. Our purpose is to promote the love of gardening, floral design, and civic and environmental responsibility. My hope is that we can honor our past, as we move forward into a new and exciting time for Garden Club.

As long as we have been on the earth, plants and gardens have been of significant importance to human beings. While gardening for sustenance was more common in the past, there is still a need to help feed our fellow man. One of the 2025-26 National Garden Club projects is a campaign to help feed the hungry across America. Plant America-Feed America encourages every National Garden Club member to participate in several ways to fight food insecurity. This is a cause I would like to focus on during my term. So how can you help? If you grow your own vegetables or fruit, I encourage you to donate any excess to your local food bank. If you don't, you could volunteer at the local community garden or donate money to the local food bank. Not only will you feel better about being part of the solution, but you have a chance to promote gardening to those around you.

We have a very exciting year ahead! I hope you will be able to participate in as many activities as possible. In doing so, you will find that you will be nurtured by the gardens you create, the service you give to others, and the friendships you make along the way!

Happy Gardening!
